April 11, 2011 – The Pittsburgh region is now recognized as a top destination for global business investment. According to fDi, “Foreign Direct Investment” magazine, Pittsburgh ranked first overall in the large cities category among the fDi2011/2012 Americas Cities of the Future. Pittsburgh also was recognized as third for foreign direct investment (FDI) strategy in that category, and 10th for both economic potential and human resources. fDi Intelligence selected its 2011/2012 Americas Cities of the Future through a market research process that’s similar to the one used by site selection consultants to identify locations for business investment. “Data and numbers are important. But what’s equally important and unique is Pittsburgh’s spirit of collaboration. It’s how we do business, and it makes the difference,” said Dewitt Peart, president of the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance.
Pittsburgh’s under 45 work force, remains one of the most educated in the country, as measured by the percentage of younger workers who have attained a bachelor’s degree or higher, according to U.S. Census data compiled by the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Social and Urban Research.
